Surf’n USA

Family

In July Jaimee and Vee were vacationing at Mission Beach so they planned a family surfing experience. We were treated to a “fair dinkum” “true blue” Aussie from down under as our instructor. We applied sunscreen and suited up. The conditions were perfect for novice surfers. [Imagine the “Beach Boys” playing in the background.]

The first instruction was based on the sand. We were quickly given the do’s and don’ts of surfing and assured that we would all get to stand on the surf board in this 90 minute crash course. We had our staged group photo before entering the water just in case some of us came out of the experience bashed and battered. Then off we went into the waters.

The instructor was very good at helping us get started off into waves. Fortunately the boards were light so when they did come down on our heads we remained conscious. We all surfed the waves, so we didn’t have to ask for our money back.

The whole experience went all too quickly. It brought back fond memories of body surfing waves at our family beach house at Marcoola in Australia.

We left the water salty and satisfied, and wanting to do this surfing thing again. We stripped off the wet suits and beachside life resumed.

Tell Harry it’s a good idea to do the thru hulls on the hard. Most people can’t work fast enough to do them while the boat is in the water. Jeff

You’ll be ready for a Crescent Head visit then. I have the foam board to suit and waves to boot. Want to book in?
