Poolside Kaleidoscope

Art

As a Zen Artist I am using art to meditate upon the wonders of the world, through a variety of media including photography, rock art, mandalas, painting, drawing and doodling. The purpose is to bring joy to others by sharing and gifting the beauty that has been captured.

Recently I was inspired to create a mandala using the above photographs I shot at the Chula Vista RV Resort swimming pool.

For me a mandala is based on a circle [not always ending as a circle]- starting in the middle and moving out. The detail is added and provides a form of meditation which ends with a product pleasing to the eye.

The process for this mandala included a sketch of my visualization of how I could combine elements of the photographs into one mandala. Then I proceeded to draw the mandala and color it with colors that were also inspired by the photographic images. Layers of shaded and blended color were added to create depth.

The final product emerged with a top layer of fine, black, decorative lines of zen-doodling [my version of zentangle.]

    • Thank you! It is always LOVELY to have cheerleaders. I always appreciate your support and encouragement.

  1. That is beautiful. I see how you have used the photos as inspiration.

    • I often find myself taking photos along theme lines. Maybe someday I will get to convert more of them into mandalas.
